Be sure to check the water levels HERE before your trip to ensure the water is flowing. HikingThe Ozark National Forest has over 95,000 acres with an extensive network of Arkansas hiking trails and many of these are within a short distance of our cabin. Here are a few that are nearby:

Rock ClimbingThe Ozarks and Upper Buffalo National river area has some of the best places to rock climb in Arkansas. If you want to climb ridges and rocks, here are some great places to go:
Horseshoe Canyon Ranch Valley of the Blind Sam’s Throne Cave Creek Candy Mountain Mountain BikingThe Ozark National Forest is a prime location in Arkansas for downhill mountain biking. The Upper Buffalo Mountain Bike Trail offers about 40 miles of singletrack in the highest point of the Ozark Mountains. Some other great places to ride are Moccasin Gap Trail, Fire Tower Trail and Ponca Downhill MTB trail.
Motorcycle RidingIs it time to take a backroads? Hop on the dirt road in front of cabin and go left or right at the split that both lead to the bottom of the Arkansas Grand Canyon. House on the Rocks is located right off of Scenic Highway 7 which is rated one of the best scenic highways in Arkansas to immerse yourself in the Ozarks. It also leads to the Pig Trail Scenic Byway and Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway.
Please note that Motorcycles should use caution when arriving at House on the Rocks because we have about 100 feet of gravel before you hit the pavement to the cabin. FoodHouse on the Rocks cabin has a full kitchen so you are able to cook your own food. For groceries Harp's Grocery Store is located just down the road on Highway 7. And if you want to go out to eat, there are several well known Arkansas hot spots nearby.

See the fall foliage or take in the breathtaking views! The Buffalo Outdoor Center has a 2 hour zipline excursion or you can fly through the trees at the longest zipline in Arkansas at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch .
Movie TheaterIf you want a drive in movie experience like we had back in the old days, Kenda Drive In Theater is located about 40 miles away in Marshall, Arkansas. It’s about an hour drive, but worth it.

ATV RidingArkansas is the perfect place to ride ATVS or go on an off road adventure through the forest. There are several places in the area to ride but our favorite has over 3,000 acres:
Wilderness Rider Adventure Park Another great place to ride four wheelers is Mill Creek OHV Trails which have about 150 miles of trail riding opportunities. Horseback RidingConnect with nature in horseback riding country at one of the nearby ranches that offer guided horseback riding tours through the Ozark National Forest:
Horseshoe Canyon Ranch Rimrock Cove Ranch Enjoy the ViewThe Arkansas Ozarks have some of the best views! The back deck of the cabin offers 180 degree views of the Arkansas Grand Canyon and there is also a scenic overlook located 1/2 a mile north on Highway 7. Steel Creek Campground has some of the best views with the tallest bluffs. Pedestal Rock is also a scenic area with hiking, but the best place to hike to see Arkansas beauty and fall foliage is the famous Hawksbill Crag at Whitaker Point. Newton County is also known for it’s elk watching in Boxley Valley and you can learn all about these majestic creatures at the Ponca Elk education center.
CavernsAre you looking for an archaeological adventure? Try spelunking in an adventure cave! Arkansas has some of the coolest caves to explore. Some of these even have underground river channels and lighted passageways to explore.

Set up along the banks of the Buffalo River or Big Piney at the Long Pool recreation area or get public access to fishing at Harrison City Lake or Richland Creek Recreation Area.
Star GazingOne of our absolute favorite things to do is watch the sunset on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the stars. The Buffalo National River is now an International Dark Sky Park which means it is the best place in Arkansas to look at the stars.
Sit Around the FireOur kids love making s'mores in one of the two firepits at House on the Rocks. We even supply the marshmallow pokes for our guests that are located in the pantry of our cabin.
